Have you heard? It’s International Women’s Day. I wasn’t going to post anything about this holiday considering I have never heard of such a day (until Twitter told me about it this morning). Then, while watching on of my all time favorite moves,’Erin Brockovich,’on TV I realized….maybe this day is onto something. The reason I love this movie so much is because Erin is such a kick-ass woman. Here is a woman who couldn’t even pay her electric bill, yet she devoted her life to helping the people living next door to her….not to mention taking down a major corporation in the process. So if Erin Brockovich can empower women all over the world, think about all the other influential women out there kicking ass and looking fabulous while doing it?
So, in case you aren’t sure which International Women to admire on a day like today, I have jotted down a few for ya!
Maya Angelou – If you haven’t heard of Maya Angelou, please crawl out from under the rock you have been hiding under. Hands down one of my favorite writers and without a doubt one of the most influential women of our time. A leading lady in the African American community, Maya was one of the few women empowering the big boys like Malcolm X and Matin Luther King. Her work has even made it into school curriculums all over the world. The words of this woman could move even a Nation of people…isn’t that right Obama?
Eleanor Roosevelt – I was never really into Mrs. Roosevelt, but my business-woman guru Kelly Cutrone changed all of that. Kelly is a huge Eleanor Roosevelt advocate and has turned me onto the Eleanor bandwagon. This one woman made huge strides for the civil rights movement, helped in getting the U.S. to join the United Nations, and even pushed against some of her man’s policies. A pretty good start to women’s rights, don’t ya think?
Gabby Bernstein – Some people might not agree that Gabby should be on this list, but any female that can take her own battle with addiction and turn it into a spiritual movement for women is pretty deserving in my book. They say that surrounding yourself with positivity leads to a happy life. Well if that’s the case, then you should invite Gabby over for dinner. This pretty lady is serving up a big plate of spiritual healing with a side of joy!
