Today while out lunching with a friend I realized something, I have exactly 14 days until Christmas is at my front door step…..and I am not prepared at all. This is pretty typical for me. I tell myself every year that I will be more proactive in saving money for Christmas shopping and actually getting out to the stores before the week of Christmas, but here we are; two weeks away and not one thing done. Maybe next year….
As stressful as this time of year can be, I must say that I really do enjoy going out and buying gifts for my close friends and family. It’s almost like a little challenge to myself – trying to find the perfect personal gift for each person on my list. Sure you can always default to the standard sweater or gift card; but finding that one perfect gift that you know will make that person excited is a challenge that I step up to every year. For the most part I can kick some serious butt in the gift department; however, there is always one person that stops me right in my tracks: my father.
In general men can be difficult to buy for, especially those in the father role. However, I am making it a point to master the ‘man’ gift this year. And, in order to do so I have put in some research on some perfect gifts…….
- Magazine Subscription – I hit a serious jackpot 2 years ago when I got my Dad (a health buff) a subscription to Men’s Health Magazine. The best part? It’s a gift that keeps on giving and can be easily renewed every year!
- Accessories – Let’s be honest, most men are not into the latest fashion accessory that’s on the market. In fact, the last time I checked my dad’s wallet actually looked like 2 separate pieces that somehow were still strung together by a thin piece of leather. So, investing in a great leather wallet, briefcase, or a designer watch can go a long way.
- Tickets – Simple as that. Football, Basketball – you name, they will take it!
- Training Sessions – This gift option is great because it can be speific to something that interest the man you are buying for. Gun ranges, golf ranges, and even raceways will allow you to book training sessions with an instructor in advance for both individuals and groups of people.
