Even though we are quickly approaching 2015, there still seems to be a need for women to be encouraged to be both successful and held to an equal standard as men. How is this possible?
We live in a time where there are plenty of women running companies, out-earning their male counterparts and creating wavelengths in pretty much any industry. Here we are – living with the women who can “do it all,” but we still need some sort of reassurance. Luckily, there are lots of women who are living role models to generations of girls like you and I. Women from all different walks of life who are putting a stamp on the world and looking fabulous while doing so. Here are a few women who will make you reach for the stars:
Natalie Massenet :: The creator of one of the largest e-tailers in today’s world and an international style icon. Much like Sophia (below), Natalie has created a brand that has turned into a phenomenon and is running it right to the bank. A true leader in today’s fashion.
Robin Roberts :: A cancer battling television badass who shows you that there is no fight too big to win. In my opinion, Robin is the true depiction of a brave face. A women who has faced so many lows, who still seems to smile the biggest and motivate you to get up and live your dreams.
Sophia Amoruso :: This trend setter has taken her online shop ‘Nasty Gal’ and turned it into one of the biggest brands on the market. Sure her company is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but it is her ‘be yourself’ attitude that has created a nation of female followers.
Kallie Dovel :: A founding member of one of my favorite charitable companies, 31 Bits, and a game-changer in the world of accessories. A mother, a business woman, and an activiest for women’s rights; Kallie and her team have created a stylish brand that boost both the economy and also the lives of women in rural Uganda.
Jenji Kohan :: It’s likely that not many of you actually know who Jenji is, but I bet you know (and love) her work. The writing force behind shows like Orange is the New Black and Weeds, Jenji is becoming a force to be reckoned with. Along with writing and producing, she is a mom to three kids and the owner of multi-colored hair. How many people can pull that off?
Amy Poehler :: Most people know Amy Poehler from her hilarious acting chops, but this comedian is worth more than a few laughs. She is the brilliant mind behind some of the best shows on TV right now, a killer author, a mom, oh….and she has won a Golden Globe. Just to name a few…
Sheryl Sandberg :: The ‘Lean In’ author has quickly become a leading figure in women’s rights and has the resume to back it up. While her book is nothing short of motivational (read more here), I find the most motivation in the fact that Sheryl is actually living proof of how hard work plus a little feminism can get you to the top.
