I have mentioned quite a few times on this here blog, just how much I love travel. While I don’t recall exactly how my love affair with trotting around the globe started, I do know that it is in fact, true love.
The other day while trying to narrow down the list of places ‘A’ and I want to try and visit in 2016, I started to consider what it was about travel that made me crave it the way I do. Sure it’s fun to go on a vacation and escape the responsibility of life, but this isn’t just a crush that I have. This is a passion. For me, travel has become a way to devour culture, explore the incredible sights that are in the World and to look inward at myself and who I am as a person. This seems a little deep, I know, but even David Mitchell believed that ‘if you travel far enough, you’ll meet yourself.”
I have found myself at some of my most humble moments while traveling. There are always times whether it be sitting on a beach, out to dinner with friends, or even walking around the local town, where I find myself in awe of the life in front of me. At times I am marveling in the blessings and the opportunities that are in my life each day (including the opportunity to travel) and other times I am immersing myself into the beauty that nature brings. How exciting that we have the possibility of trucking up Mt. Corcovado in Brazil or basking in the sunsets on the cliffs of Santorini, Greece?
Roaming around foreign lands while sampling exotic cuisines brings excitement to my life. Hiking through the jungles of the Caribbean and jumping into waterfalls of fresh tropical water brings adventure to my life. And turning these experiences into memories for a lifetime is what makes travel such a love of mine.
