So, I am going to take a moment and congratulate myself on just how productive I actually was this weekend. I managed to successfully come away from the weekend completing almost all of my holiday shopping and even started wrapping some of it. It is amazing how much one can actually accomplish when there is a bit of motivation mixed with some determination.
Last week I talked a little about having some big decisions to make and how indecisive (per usual) I am being. Well, the struggle is still very real for me; however, I am determined to get up and get real about what moves I need to make for my life. To help me do this, I have decided to create a mini life plan for myself. (And no, this is not an early-life crisis.) This mini plan is intended to help me look at the next few years and determine where I want to be with all aspects of my life. From there, I will look at were I stand right now and figure out what I need to do to accomplish my real goals.
Specifically, I have a lot of uncertainty on my career right now; however, this mini plan of mine is definitely built for all of the areas that I have in my life: my relationship with ‘A’, my friends and family, where I live, my health….the list goes on. I found that writing out everything that I want and comparing it to what I have really helped me develop the necessary plan that I am going to follow. I also did a bit of reading on life plans and especially enjoyed the Forbes policy: Act Learn Build Repeat. You start by determining your desire, you then take a small step towards that desire, learn from that step, then take another small step, and continue by learning from that step. It’s really that simple.
There’s no denying that no matter how much we plan, life is still going to be life. It will surprise you, disappoint you, and even reward you. There are no guarantees in life, but there’s also no progress unless you get up and make some shit happen!
