OK, so we should start out this week’s Motivational Monday with an apology because…well, I have been a bad blogger this past week. I have been on such a roll lately with ideas and posts lately, so I have nothing to do but to hang my head low for the lack of activity last week.
The one good thing that came from my lack of productivity this is that it has inspired me for this week’s motivational post. Procrastination is one of those things that follow you around during life. You tackle it as a pre-teen, continue battling as a teenager, and as you grow and become more responsible, you will continue to go to war with this irresponsible action.
There is no denying that we all face and fall to the wrath of procrastination, but when this happens, what do we do from there? Last week I made the mistake of letting one lazy day fall into many lazy days. I would sit in front of the computer and….well, I would just sit. Maybe I wasn’t inspired much last week. Maybe I was just focused on other things. Either way I let my lack of energy get the best of me and I didn’t even try to fight back.
Some of the reasons that we procrastinate are obvious. We’re lazy, distracted or even just unorganized. However, sometimes there’s more to it than that. Often it is found that people procrastinate because the tasks at hand are unpleasant or overwhelming to them. This is especially common when you are doing something that you have no passion for. (Hint: Always try to find a way to incorporate you passion).
A lot of my procrastination comes from being unorganized and easing the grip I have on my schedule. So, in order to get back on track I like to start by creating a to-do list with all of the things that need to get done. From there I like to prioritize them not just by what is most important, but also by what I can actually accomplish that day/week. Doing this helps me manage my time better and allows me to direct my focus on the task at hand versus the 10 other things floating around in my head. I also like the idea of rewarding yourself for completing things on the to-do list, especially if it is one you were slacking because you don’t like to do. Have to spend all day cleaning out the garage or budgeting out your finances (ewww)? Treat yourself to a latte or pedicure when you’re done. It will make it all worth it.
Feel free to let me know your tips for staying on target and hopefully my tricks help you stay productive all week long!
