Yesterday was the perfect Sunday. I started by stuffing my face with the most decadent pancakes (see here) and then I curled myself into the couch for some football with A. After that, lots of reality TV along with some internet browsing. Yes, you should be jealous.
After having what I called a “Rachel Day” it got me thinking – why don’t I do these more often? With work, family, friends, and everything else in between, it is far too easy to wear yourself down in the day-to-day. I especially know that feeling since the past 2 months have pretty much been non-stop. So, let’s talk a little about adding some small things to our days to help us feel like we are treating ourselves in the midst of our crazy lives. Here are some of my favorites:
The past few months my obsession with beautiful floral arrangements has skyrocketed. It’s likely due to all the space in my new home that I get to cover with them. I also find that seeing the bright bold arrangements around the house excites me a little and even when I pass them while doing laundry, they make me smile.
I understand that pedicures may not be for everyone, but that is not going to stop me from saying this: pedicures are small miracles for your feet. Yup, they’re that good. There was a period of time where I considered pedis as a necessity rather than a form of relaxation, but it was my bestie who told me that whenever she is really stressed or needs to just get away from reality, she gets a pedicure. Some of the best advice I have ever received.
While I don’t like to think that exercise is a ‘treat’ to myself, there is no denying that I feel amazing every time I sweat it out at the gym or even in my living room. Personally, I like to pop in some headphones and zone out when I’m working out, so this hour is devoted to not just my body, but to my mind too.
The concept of one hour is something I have read about in the past, but has really resonated with me the older I get. It’s all about devoting one hour of your day to one thing you love. This could be an hour of TV, reading, painting, blogging – anything that sets your heart on fire. Although it may seem unrealistic to set aside a whole 60 minutes for yourself, it’s necessary. Trust me, your soul will thank you!
What treats do you all give yourself throughout the week?
