I’d like to start this post off by saying: today sucked. From start to finish, it sucked. Sure, I’ll admit there were a few genuine moments of happiness or laughter, but overall I’m completely 100% over today. I woke up late, it’s Monday, my work emails destroyed my spirit on my ride to work, it’s rainy, it’s cold, and I spent over 2.5 hours trying to get home on public transportation (thank you so much Septa).
Now, how’s that for some motivation?
This, my friends, is life and no matter how hard you try, you can never expect the unexpected. While I wanted to wake up early today and try to get us all through Monday with positive words wrapped in bright energy, that didn’t happen. Instead I allowed the road blocks of my Monday distract me from what I was set out to do. In fact, I was distracted and then completely derailed by it. You know, the great Winston Churchill is known for saying “if you’re going through hell, keep going.” Well wouldn’t Mr. Churchill be disappointed in me!
The thing is, good old Winston couldn’t be more right. Sometimes the answer to the crap day that you are enduring really is that simple. I was the one who stopped trying to make it a good day. I let all the little things become bigger things. I decided that it was the unfortunate chain of events throughout my day that made this a bitch of a Monday. It wasn’t the rain that ruined my day (although my hair has a whole other war to wage on that). I allowed the rain to become a bigger part in my move towards being a Negative Nancy.
So let’s take today and call it a wash. Bad days happen and if we’re all so lucky to live out a long life, they will happen over and over again. But, maybe next time we see the cards stacking against us, we can try to remember that it is our reaction to the hell we are going through that really matters and that it is our job to just keep going!Pin It
