Olá ama! So sorry this week’s Motivational Monday is coming to you on almost Tuesday, but I have been recovering from a fun filled birthday celebration packed weekend. Can you blame a girl?
Seriously though, the love I have felt from all my friends and family over the past week for my birthday has been so amazing. The entire weekend I have been overcome with genuine gratitude that I get to spend my days here on Earth with some of the kindest and downright hilarious people in the whole wide world. I, my friends, am a very lucky lady. In fact, after spending a few days with my besties, I couldn’t help but think about what my life would be like without these very people. Honestly, I am not sure I can imagine such a thing.
It is oh so very true when they say that the older you get, the more you understand the real meaning of friendship. During your adolescence it is so easy to be consumed with having hundreds of people around you that you start handing out the world ‘friend’ like it’s a free sample at Whole Foods. Sure, these people mean something to you, but if there is one thing I have learned very well, it’s that there is a grave difference between friends and acquaintances. Trust me, it is very easy to confuse a casual relationship with that of true friendship, but don’t let it fool you.
One thing that can be guaranteed to you is that the people who are truly meant to be in your life, will be. There is no such thing as an accidental friend. I remember crumbling at the thought of losing touch with people who I thought were vital to my life, yet reality has always shown me that those same people were never meant to share my future with me. If you are not fighting for them and they are not fighting for you, it just might not be worth fighting for.
There ever so brilliant Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that “in order to have friends, you must be one.” Well Ralph’s got that right. Every single day you should work your hardest to be the best you for the people you care about and you should never expect any less from them. So, if you haven’t done so yet – give a little love to those people who you have chosen to be part of your world. They deserve it!Pin It
