Felice Lunedi my loves! That right there is Happy Monday for all you non-Italians (ps – I googled that as well). Welcome back to another week in this wild world we all live in. I should start off by apologizing for being a little MIA last week. Things have been in high-speed since getting back to Philly and I am still playing catch-up. Do not fret though, momma has some good stuff in the works for you this week!
This weekend was another one of those weekends where I blinked and it was immediately over. It’s so odd because as much as I want to frown about the fact that I didn’t get to sleep in, hang out in my pj’s and watch the Real Housewives form my couch all weekend, I also really want to celebrate the fact that I was on the move/being quite productive. One of my favorite parts of this weekend was heading out to Harrisburg to celebrate my grandmother’s 78th birthday. Side note: If that is what 78 looks like, sign me up!
For those of you who do not have the pleasure of knowing Momma D (only cool Grandmoms have nick names), there is one word to define her: firework. She has somehow managed to tuck a world of wisdom, kindness, faith, love, generosity, and fabulousness all inside her tiny frame. She is also very convincing when she wants to be and when she outright asked if her birthday celebration would make an appearance in this week’s Motivational Monday….well, there is no saying no to the woman in charge of the family.
It was actually perfect to have her life and lessons featured this week. While we were all out to dinner this weekend to party hard (not really) for her big day, I remember sitting back and thinking about what an impact this women has on not just me, but on the entire family she has around her. Without a doubt, it has to be the most amazing feeling for her to sit at the head of a table on her 78th year of life and see 2 generations surrounding her. Not one person at that table would have been there that night if it wasn’t for her and that’s pretty damn cool. In fact, I remember looking at my mom who I couldn’t breathe without and my aunt who is my personality’s identical twin – these amazing women are here in my life purely because of Momma D.
My favorite thing about my beloved Mom-Mom is that she uses every part of her being to encourage the people in her family to be the best version of themselves. My grandmother has for years been pushing me to pursue my passion of writing. Now that I have this little blog of mine, she pushes me to go even further. I am constantly being told I should “work in journalism or write a book.” Her passion for my own desires in life push me everyday to acknowledge what it is that I love and what it is that is important in my life. It is women like this that lay the ground work for a family like the one we have. I feel so incredibly fortunate everyday that I have a strong foundation of beautiful, smart, talented, and strong women in my life. Not everyone gets that opportunity, and for that I can only be grateful. With that there is only one thing left to say and that is to you my dearest Mom-Mom, the head of this family, I thank you.Pin It
