I want to start this post out by letting you all know that I don’t think I have ever been this excited to release a new feature on the blog. I have been wanting to bring more elements of my home city, Philadelphia, into the blog for some time now because regardless of what you think you might know – Philly is awesome. It is a city filled with great music, incredible style, serious sports fans, and some of the best food you will ever eat. To give you a better taste of my awesome city I am introducing a new feature called City Guide: a post dedicated to the places to go, things to do, and food to eat when in Philadelphia.
Since we are only a two days away from Christmas I figured why not start with the Christmas Village at LOVE Park. In case you aren’t familiar, LOVE Park is home to the iconic LOVE statue that sits facing our incredible City Hall. During the holidays, the city turns this quaint park into a Christmas Village where you can do two of my favorite things – shop and eat.
My favorite aspect of the Christmas Village is that it is open to independent small businesses who are selling their homemade goods. You can find almost anything from a handwoven poncho to a Christmas ornament to bacon jam. Yup, you read that right…a jam that has bacon in it. It’s as amazing as you think it is.
‘A’ and I picked one seriously cold day to visit the village, but got to taste a bunch of great food and grab some quick stocking stuffers for our friends and family. I fell in love with this Turkish fabric shop which had some of the most amazing throws and lamps I have ever seen. We also stopped into a scarf shop that was selling bear gloves….as in gloves that looked like bear paws. ‘A’ had to pull me out of there before I bought a pair for everyone I knew!
Hands down my favorite spot was this little macaroon shop that we found at the very end of the park with most adorable miniature macaroons. Now, I am sure I am going to blow a lot of your minds by saying this, but I have never had a macaroon before. That’s right – your sweet craving blogger right here has never indulged in this little pastry; until now of course. We bought a pack of 7 and I tried every single one of them that night!
Here are some of my favorites:
