Today is the final installment of the 30-day budget challenge that I joined (with The Everygirl). If this challenge has been anything it has been both eye-opening and well….challenging. I have been awakened to some pretty shameful spending habits, but was also able to realize how I could use the money I have to help better my finances overall.
For this last week I decided to dig into the minds of others who were taking this challenge to see what tips and tricks they were using to save money. By searching #TEG30DAYCHALLENGE on Instagram you can find thousands of people budgeting their way through the month. Some people are eating out less while others are DIY’ing holiday decorations to save some money. Scrolling through all of the posts I was both amazed at how many people were challenge ready this month, and inspired by all of their creative ideas. Here are my final set of quick tips to saving those dollars:
I can honestly say that I have had some of the best times just sitting around with my friends in one of our homes. With that being said, there is no need to go out and spend a bunch of money drinking/eating when you can do the same for a lot less with your peeps at home! Host a dinner party pot luck style with BYOB on the invite. Girls night filled with wine, ice cream, and Redbox? Sounds like the perfect night for me. Sure, going out on the town is fun and definitely something that you should enjoy on occasion, but do take advantage of the party that you can have right in your own living room.
The world of DIY is an intimidating one, this I know. However, it is also really fun and once you start to master the creative ideas that are floating around in your head, it really becomes a rewarding experience. DIY is also a major money saver for almost any area of your life: clothing, home decor, you name it – it can be made. With DIY blogs exploding all over the internet (not the mention the realm of DIY on Pinterest) there is no shortage of ideas and tutorials for you to chose from. Whether it’s making your own planters (which can save you $20-50) or designing your own cocktail favors for your next party, the wold of DIY has you covered. Trust me, your options are endless and your wallet will love you for it.
