The other day I looked at the calendar and it hit me, 2015 is really over and we are already flying through the first month of a new year. It’s been quite a process pulling the best of beauty together for 2015. I have spent countless hours (not to mention dollars) on various products and brands this past year. I mean, 365 days is a long time to be playing with beauty products and it’s never easy narrowing down your favorites, but here we are with my favorites from the past 12 months.
2015 was the year of skin for me. Not only did I put more focus on my skin, but I also branched out to try new products from various brands. For someone with super sensitive skin, this was not an easy task, but I couldn’t be more happy that I ventured out. I discovered so many different brands and products that have enhanced my skin. Who knew that I could gain younger looking skin while getting “older” (I use the quotes as I refuse to admit I am aging in any way.) I especially fell head over heels with cleansing oils/balms and face masks. Sure, exfoliating and moisturizing are necessary to the skincare routine, but it’s adding these extra performers to the regimen that has boosted my skin.
Lips are always a difficult when it comes to picking out my favorites (let’s be honest, I love them all), and because of that this group is a bit large. This past year I struggled with keeping my lips hydrated and I also suffered from hard chapped lips for the first time in my life. Because of this, I focused a lot on products that exfoliate and moisturize the lips. That means a lot of lip scrubs and a lot of lip balms. I also spent most of the year on the Kylie Jenner bandwagon wearing brown-based nudes and mauvey pinks. Oh, don’t worry; I kept a few bold lips in there too.
When it comes to the face, I have spent the past year discovering some of my favorite (now holy-grail) face products. I was especially blown away by the foundations that came from drug store brands such as Maybelline and L’Oreal. The Infallible Pro-Matte is one of my favorite foundations of all time and I also found the Mecca of concealers in the Bye Bye Under Eye from it Cosmetics. My focus all year has been flawless looking skin that looks like it is glowing from within. Smoothing primers and falling back in love with the Beauty Blender has helped me achieve that.
Speaking of glow, 2015 was hands down the hear of the highlight. You could not browse a beauty blog or open a fashion magazine without seeing someone obsessing over a new highlighter. Can you blame us? Who does’t want to look like a glowy disco ball in the middle of a party? I also fell in love with deep blush colors from brands like NARS and Tarte. I nice warm cheek blended into a contour…now that’s what I call true love. I have seen lots of articles on how people should start putting down the bronzer and lighten up on the highlight… ummmm why? I think that we should all continue to glow as bright as we can no matter what anyone has to say about it!
